Spring Has ‘Spun, Indy

Temperatures are rising, we’re thinking all things Spring. We can’t get enough NEW in the shop lately – new happenings on Mass Ave, new opportunities in the city, and SO MANY NEW locally made goods on our shelves. See what Spring is bringing to Homespun below.

Whats Good, NEW GOODS?

Our shelves are getting Spring refreshes on old favorites and new makers every day! Our team is working hard to keep our online store up to date for you at shop.homespunindy.com.

DIY

Challenge your crafty side with our newest DIY Kits. Some of our colorful favorites include Sunday Mornings Embroidery Kits, and Little Sparrow Co.’s  Rainbow Macrame Kits. Each come with everything you need, including detailed instructions and guides to create your one of a kind masterpiece. The best part about Sunday Morning is that the projects range from Beginner to Advance, so you can learn at your comfort level. The finished products add a pop of color to your space, and a feel good accomplishment to show off in your home! Plus, we’re all running out of hobbies one year into quarantine. Who doesn’t want to hang their very own rainbow above their beds?

Green and Shiny Things

While the world turns more green around us, so are our shelves! In last week’s blog we introduced you to Moss Amigos, our newest easy to care for plant friends. We’ve also added ceramic geode air plant holders from Tal & Bert to spruce up your desks, bookshelves and any space in need of a little color. Air plants are easy to care for and their unique holders bring new life to your homes and offices.

Drink From Home

A year into a global pandemic, we hardly remember what the inside of a bar looks like. Luckily nicer weather and vaccines bring up the idea of distanced, backyard and porch entertaining this summer.  Owl’s Brew Craft Mixer is brewed from tea and botanicals, and gives the at home bartender an easy way to create a boozy Citrus Sweet Tea. Pair with Vodka, Seltzer, or your favorite spirit for a drink infused with English Breakfast Tea, Lemon, and Lime. Owl’s Brew is made with real ingredients for an even better, more natural taste.

In the mornings, we’ve been skipping Starbucks with One Stripe Chai Co’s At Home Blends. These kits allow you to make Chai and Turmeric Lattes from your own kitchen. Don’t forget to tip yourself like you would tip your favorite barista!

Mass Ave-news

Our end of Mass Ave has a brand new Craft Bar and Thai Bistro: BOHDI is now open for carry out from 5 pm – 9 pm, with dine-in coming very soon! We can’t wait to try our newest neighbors, we’re already dreaming of the lunch specials.

The Garage Food Hall across from Homespun also continues to add new restaurants and spots. Check out dining, entertainment and shopping along the 8oo block of Mass Ave – we can’t think of a better weekend plan! We also can’t wait to get our hands on a coffee from Blue Collar Coffee, located in the Bottleworks Hotel.

Lastly, we’re excited to announce a very special pop-up version of Homespun:Modern Handmade will be on Monument Circle during the duration of the NCAA March Madness Tournament. Stay tuned on our social media for up-to-date info on our pop up shop.

New Faces

Our little Homespun team is growing! Since the start of 2021, we’ve added new faces behind our counter and behind our web store. Come meet the newest members of our dedicated, one of a kind staff in store every day from 10 am to 6 pm on weeknights, and until 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Check out the About section on our homepage to learn more about these outgoing new staffers.

As always,

you can keep up with us in store, online, and on social media (@homespunindy) for the latest. We’re so grateful to see more and more of you walking the avenue as it gets nicer out, stop in and say hi!

Meet Your Newest Plant Friends: Moss Amigos

The first signs of spring are inspiring us in store this week to open our eyes to all things green and bright around us. One of our newest makers, Moss Amigos, are about to be your newest and easiest plant friends to thrive and vibe with this spring.

We’re excited to bring you Moss Amigos, a South Bay based business from San Jose, California. Moss Amigos are a brand of the plant algae, Marimo, which is grown domestically in the United States, the business states on their website.

What ARE these little moss balls?

In the wild, Marimo are found in freshwater glacial lakes in Iceland, Scotland, Estonia and Japan. They develop their curious shape from the natural current in freshwater lakes. The movement of the water spins them into spheres. We suggest swirling your Moss Amigos around in their jar every once in a while to remind them of the freshwater lakes they were raised in. Thanks to Moss Amigos for the background and history of Marimo – we had no idea these little guys lived such cool lives.

No green thumb needed to enjoy the ease and beauty of your Moss Amigo – these are the easiest plants to take care of. All they need is love, light, and an occasional water change.

Moss Amigo Care Guide, courtesy of the brand:

  1. Keep your Moss Amigo out of direct sunlight! Unless its wearing a hat. (YES you can get your Moss Amigo a stylish hat through the Moss Amigo web store to keep it fashionable and adorable.)
  2. Change their water every 2-3 weeks – non-chlorinated spring water is best
  3. Keep your buddy cool! Don’t let them get too hot over the summer

These little plant pets make the perfect addition to any space in need of some livening up!

They also make unique, one of a kind gifts for just about anybody. They come in clear jars with cork lids and your choice of stones to brighten up your space, from desks and shelves to businesses, and anywhere in need of a little love. These are available with Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Tiger Eye, and a rainbow of beautiful stones for your moss ball to bounce among.

For Moss cuteness overload:
